    Hi ppesonyvaio,

    As the restore to factory settings process formats the hard drive prior to reinstating the system there is no possibility that viruses remain, crypted or otherwise, unless your recovery partition or recovery disks are corrupted which is an unlikely scenario.

    'unlikely' doesn't mean impossible though.

    @Rich912,

    HaHa!!,

    And what if the virus infects the MBR?

    You can restore to the factory settings and when you think that everything's OK the virus says "Hi!! "

    Your statement that there is " no possibility....." is NOT accurate.

    Regards,

    Hi again,

    Not to mention what will happen if the virus or ransomware blocks the BIOS.

    You can try to perform as many factory resets or restore points you wish you will not have a result.

    Best practice is to contact a malware removalist, remove the infection and then perform a factory reset.

    B/R,
