How about Windows 7?

Which exact model do you have?

Sony does support a downgrade to XP or an upgrade to Windows 7 for the VGN-P11 and VGN-P21 series Vaios. The VGN-P31 series came with Windows 7 installed.

Probably either will work better than Vista but you will have to buy a retail version of XP or Windows 7.
