Vaio Laptop fan noise?

Hello, I recently purchased a Sony Vaio VPCF12MOE Laptop and am really happy with it apart from the very loud fan noise I've noticed recently. Even now with only a webpage up the noise the laptop is making is tremendous. Apart from that I'm very happy with it and have had no other problems at all. Thanks for any help.

Vaio update not updating

I am using Vaio Update version 5.4.1.04200. Upon checking for updates it come up with the following message...

A new version of VAIO Update is available. VAIO Update cannot be used unless it is updated. Update now?

I click yes, then the icon in the system tray shows it is downloading the update but then after around 1 minute it stops and nothing happens. So, until this is fixed i cannot use VAIO Update.

Any solutions or a direct download link to download the latest version?

If it makes difference my model number is VGN-AW41MF

I just wonder if anyone has the alleged graphic problem with your vaio series. I got AR51J with 8400m GT early this year. So far it works fine, but not sure it would die shortly . What's the sony's response?

Vaio PCG-71911M no internet access with broadband stick

Hi, i just bought a vaio pcg-71711m laptop and a meteor broadband stick. Everytime i try to connect to the internet a box pops up saying 'no internet access'. The problem isnt with the stick as i tried it in another laptop and it works fine.And it will connect to the internet through wi-fi. I called the broadband provider and they said the stick was working fine and that the problem is most likely with the network settings, can anyone help?please!

My battery on my vaio doesnt seem to keep its charge? i can keep it charged in the mains until the battery is full. but then when i turn my computer on the next day i'm lucky if i can use the battery power for 5mins. i dont use my computer alot so dont use the power that quickly. i have not even had the laptop for a year yet? any suggestions would be much appreciated????

I got Vaio F11( i7 cpu) on March 2010. I had overheat issue for more than 6 months. Just try to look into this issue recently since overheat issue is getting serious. Laptop can be burning even I just browse internet or do nothing( power on).

Following the instruction online, I have update bios, but it doesn't seem the answer. I have call for technical help. But seems my machine has passed the warranty. To get sony check my laptop, I have to pay 60 pounds first.

After review discussion online, it seems to me, the batch I got has default problems including high pitch noise, overheat, etc. I had send my laptop back for noise issue last year. And the only way to get around is to turn off the microphone( in setting).

What I want to say is that this patch ( f11) has so many annoy issues( faulty product?). It doesn't make sense for user to pay for service charge even the warranty is past. Any suggestion except paying 60 pounds first?

This should be a case for sony. I have looked into the way to contact Sony. But all of these are directed to technical repair provider. Any tip which directory I should contact?

Sony Vaio Z-Series driver support for NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M

I purchased a Sony Vaio Z-Series notebook (model: VPCZ12X5E, graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, Windows 7 64bit) back in July of last year quickly followed by Adobe's new Creative Suite 5. Much to my horror, the NVIDIA driver which have GPU acceleration for CS 5 explicitly stated that it would not work on Sony Vaio laptops!

Six months later and visiting the NVIDIA driver site there have been some developments:

On the Supported Products tab at the bottom it says:

Sony has joined the Verde program by supporting the following VAIO notebooks: Sony F Series with NVIDIA GeForce 310M and Sony F Series with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. Other Sony VAIO notebooks are not supported at this time (please contact Sony for driver support).

As I am on a Z-Series this unfortunately doesn't cover me. Early in the piece I contacted Sony support and they said that they would log an issue and get back to me - I'm still waiting.

Does anyone have a Z-Series which they have successfully updated to the new drivers and how?

Does anyone know if the Z-Series "high-end business notebook" will ever be upgraded by Sony to the latest drivers?

New S Series Vaios Overheating?

I just got a CTO SA series Vaio and I find it is heating up very quickly and I worry it may be over heating. I also find the fans seem to be extremely loud which I presume is due to it being very hot. I did temporarily have a SB Vaio with very similar specification and never had this issues so would it only be specific for the SA? Has anyone else with a SA Vaio noticed this or is it a known issues? And does anyone know how I can fix it?

I was looking at purchasing and configuring a new Sony Vaio F series.

There are 3 options for configuring the display, and I would like more information on the "VAIO Display Plus" and "VAIO Display Premium".

At the moment, the information given for on the Sony website for the two displays are as follows

	Vaio Display Plus	Vaio Display Premium
Real Wide Screen: Watch movies in their original format with reduced black bars
High Contrast: Images are more realistic and true-to-life
Tough Coating: Resistance to marks and scratches
Wide Viewing Angles: Do not need to be in front of the screen to see sharp and clear images
Low Reflection: Makes images easier to see in outdoor environments
Ultimate colour saturation: The most realistic and intense picture possible
Extreme Brightness: Gives supreme image depth and definition
Adobe RGB Colours: Wider colour coverage for professional photo enthusiasts, printers and producers

To me this is not enough information.

Please could someone actually post the technical specs of the panel used (rather than just descriptions as above) as I would like to know these figures so I can make a more informed decision on which option to choose..

I'd like to know whether there are coating differences (matte or glossy) between the panels - the types of panel (tn / ips / pva), the manufacturer of the panels (samsung? sony?), reaction times, brightness levels etc..

Then I can make a decision

I want to know whether it is actually worth spending more money for Display Premium, at the moment, the only concrete difference is the inclusion of Adobe RGB colours, as without specs / actual figures, having a 'ticks' next to "Ultimate colour saturation" and "Extreme Brightness" don't really mean anything.

I have a new Vaio (one week old today)! But, it is very slow considering it has 4 GB Mem and 550 GB hard drive. I have not loaded anything other than Microsoft Office 2003 on it. Internet Explorer 9 was VERY slow so I reloaded it and although somewhat faster, it sticks and then keeps crashing, the same happens in Word, it stops responding. When searching in google, same problem, it slows right down when typing in the search box!!! Also the speakers are not very loud!! One other thing, how do I stop the cursor from scrolling so freely? Can someone PLEASE help me! Thanks.

I have vaio vpcf12moe. The programme VpmLM.exe seems to start randomly and uses 500mb of memory usually noticed by fan running high speed. Anybody know what the programme does. Tried starting from folder and nothing appears to happen. Also the comp starts randomly from hibernation and sleep with the lid closed, this may also coincide with when Vp mLM.exe runs.

Any help to clarify whats going on would be appreciated.

IF YOU HAVE DVD/CD DRIVE PROBLEMS - READ THIS>

Several members seem to have problems with their CD/DVD drives at the moment. As far as I know, there is no magic solution but you could try some or all of the following: -

1. See if there is an updated driver or updated firmware for your drive at Vaio-Link. Some Sony drives are re-badged from other manufacturers and you may have to search for updated downloads. For example, if you have a Sony DW-D56A drive, you can get a firmware download from HERE (Use PFS2). Many other drives are also supported on this site.

2. Use System Restore to return your Vaio to the configuration when it was last working normally.
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore - choose a restore date before you had the problem.

3. Look in Device Manager to see if there are any errors against your DVD/CD-ROM drive.
Start -> Right-Click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager - expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives and check the status. If there is an Error Code or a yellow triangle with a ! or ? come back here with the number and we may be able to help.

4. If there is no error and the drive is reported as working normally, try Uninstalling the drive by right-clicking on it in Device Manager and choosing Uninstall. Re-booting your Vaio will reinstall the drivers.

5. Try some different software to read/write your discs and see if that works. Also try a different brand of discs - Sony, TDK and Verbatim seem favourites.

6. Try a liquid lens cleaner on the lens and polish with a microfibre cloth ? this can sometimes help.

7. If your drive works with either CDs or DVDs only make sure the ribbon cable is not preventing the reader head from moving freely - check that the laser head in the drive can move freely for the whole range of its travel. The disc information is held on the outside tracks for DVDs and the inner tracks for CDs.

8. Last resort is to perform a full C:\ Drive System Recovery from your Recovery Discs. Make sure you back up all your Data as the contents of C:\ will be lost and your Vaio returned to the factory configuration.

If none of these work, you may have a hardware problem and you need to contact Vaio-Link. There is no point contacting them until you have carried out a Drive C:\ Recovery as this is the first thing they will ask you to do.

Left click and touch-tap not working, touchpad moving seems to work.

Hey people....

I have a problem .. after less than 3 days of purchasing a sony vaio vpcf13m1e the left click ( hardware button ) stopped working, so did the left click of the touchpad ( software/driver button ) .. right click is ok .. moving the mouse using the touchpad is ok .. so is the scroll up/down left/right ...

Like the manual said I did create the restore disks when I got it home ( it was the first thing I did ). Tried using those ( it formated everything .. that's ok I guess ) and still .. the problem remains .. If not even the copy they restore doesn't make it work .. I guess I should go back to the store .. any other ideas ?

Sony Vaio ATI Drivers

I have an E Series Sony Vaio, with an ATI HD Radeon 5650 graphics card. I was interested in getting the latest drivers and so looked on the ATI website, then I found out you have to get them from sony - fair enough. But the latest drivers for the graphics card on the sony website are from 2010? This means they are not allot of use and they are the same as my current ones. Any ideas how I can get the latest drivers for my Vaio laptop?

Remote Keyboard from VAIO to BRAVIA - how?

I own a Sony VAIO laptop and a KDL-40EX500 BRAVIA, and I recently installed the Remote Keyboard software on my computer. It works excellent with my PlayStation3, but I can't seem to get it to work with my tv. Does anyone know if the KDL.40EX500 model is compatible with Remote Keyboard? And if it is, how do I make it work?

WinDVD BD for Vaio Update Problems

HELP PLEASE

Vaio update installed WinDVD BD 8.8.0.154 and it wouldn't play Blu Rays anymore (DVDs would play).

Sony support suggested that I uninstall the software and use Vaio recovery to install the original software but there was an error 505:41.

Reinstalling everything (including the OS) from scratch is not an option. Now I'm left with no DVD/BD software.

I'd like to get the previous version of the WinDVD software back (8.0-B20.185) can anyone help ???

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) on my Vaio laptop. The problem is that although I can install all the other drivers, I simply cannot find the driver for the WLAN device on the laptop. I found the other drivers from the support page for my model:

but the drivers provided for WLAN do not seem to work.

I've been trying to update them in device manager using the update driver option. Asking windows 7 to search the internet, I'm temporarily connected by ethernet, yields no results, and manually pointing the search to the downloaded driver folders from the Vaio support page also leads Windows to say no suitable drivers have been found.

Any help much appreciated. I've noticed a few people across Google mention they've had similar problems with the WLAN driver provided on the support page. If this is the case, could somebody let me know the maker and model of the WLAN card so I can try to source an alternative? At the moment I haven't been able to find any information on this.

VPC-SA2C5E - AMD Graphics Driver crash

Hi, I'm having trouble with the latest AMD driver update (at least the latest available from Sony), whereby when running specific software (Minecraft) the graphics driver (amdkmdap.exe) crashes. Laptop is Sony VAIO VPC-SA2C5E with an AMD Radeon HD 6630M running Win 7 x64.

This issue did not occur with the factory installed drivers when I first received the laptop (I believe they were CCC 11.6). Current CCC (Catalyst Control Centre) version is 11.08 (26/8/11) with the specific driver version being 8.862.4.1000. The application that causes the driver to crash is Minecraft.

When running Minecraft for 2-5 minutes (starting from when a world is loaded), the game will freeze, the screen will flick to black, back to desktop (Aero disabled) and to black again. After this, normally, the desktop reappears with Aero enabled and a balloon message stating 'Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered'. Sometimes I just get a BSOD with amdkmdap.exe listed as the culprit. Minecraft used to and still runs very smoothly in terms of framerate. Game music keeps playing and the world autosaves fine after the crash and the Minecraft window remains displaying black and being unresponsive. Seems to have no cause at the moment. I had modded Minecraft so I patched it back to vanilla to see if mods were causing the issue and it still crashes. Minecraft is written in Java and runs in OpenGL only (in case you may not know). JRE version at time of crashes is 1.6 update 22. Will update to 1.6 update 29 and see if problem is resolved. Minecraft doesn't crash when running on Intel HD 3000 graphics (STAMINA).

Other 3D enabled applications work fine in both the old and new driver versions (Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 3, Google Earth) and Autodesk Inventor 2011 Professional I have only been able to test on the new driver version and it works fine.

How can the problem be alleviated? Should I roll back the drivers (and can it be done with little hassle)? Is a driver update coming soon?

EDIT 1: Updated Java to no avail. I even hit a new record - crash to BSOD within 30 seconds! This time it was amdkmdag.exe though.

EDIT 2: Just had a look at VAIO Update - horray! New AMD drivers are updating as we speak, though because my internet's screwed up at the moment, the update has only downloaded a small part of the installer. Guess I'll have to wait for a few hours for the internet to stop being rubbish so the update can finish downloading. Will update with results when it's installed.

My first post here, just purchased a VPCH2C5E laptop after a few years using a Dell Inspiron. I work in IT and we have several Android devices, another W7 laptop and a Linux server in the household.

I was looking forward to getting the Vaio as it was to replace a poor quality Dell laptop that has many issues. So when it turned up looking all new and shiny last Thursday I was quite excited. It didn't last long.

Firstly, Windows Update ran and found a huge amount to do, why is the build so out of date? Several updates then failed with no reasons provided, rather frustrating. I then ran a Vaio update and that also kept failing intermittantly. The window kept crashing and I lost track of what had worked and what hadn't.

I then started playing with Vaio Gate - or trying to, Sometimes it was there, sometimes not... When it was there it was slow to open and I just couldn't see the point - I can pin stuff I want to the taskbar in W7. Maybe it was useful with XP but why has been left in the build?

Anyway - everything else appeared to be working OK so I copied down video and photo content from a back up hard drive (as pretty much anyone would these days if they haven't got NAS storage?). Its then that 'Vaio Content Sharing' and 'Vaio Analysis Manager' started up. I didn't know what they were so left them running - for the best part of 2 days. During this time the CPU was pretty much 100% and the laptop unusable. This was with default settings.

Can someone explain why Sony think this is a good idea? After much Googling I decided they were useless and tried to get rid of them - not just turn them off but get rid of them. Easy? Nah, of course not. After hours of research I lost my temper and ended up going through Add/Remove programs and deinstalling most of the stuff that started with Vaio. This turned out to be the best thing I did.

I now have a functioning W7 laptop with (so far) no ridiculous background tasks kiling it. But why oh why do manufacturers think they can provide software that will do a better job than Microsoft, the biggest software company in the world? The whole laptop is riddled with Sony add-ons that add absolutely no value and just complicate the setting up and ongoing useability of the machine.

Sony seriously need to think about how they present their pre-built laptops and until they do I for one would never recommend one to anyone.

As postscript I'd add that one of the Android devices we have is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It also has some proprietary Samsunng software on it but when that arrived I booted it up and had the thing working perfectly inside 2 minutes. Sony are a decade behind that with the Vaio series.
