I cannot/willnot go through a full System Recovery if it results in losing any of my files or installations, as the pc was painfully set-up.
Also, the problem is not with the Fn keys, those work ok always.
The S buttons and the volume adjust on the left side of the panel are those not working.

I actually thought things got better after installing the Shared Library again, the other component was already installed and was trying to uninstall when running the installer, but it turns out that the disappearing happened again just a few moments ago.

Any other ideas or components I might check on?
It really is annoying not being able to use the S buttons.

Thanks for the fast reply, appreciated!

Now, as to those utilities, I just don't understand why they stop at random instead of just not working at all. For example, if I log off and re-login, they will work again, same as restarting the pc.

I'm downloading the utility package as I type, and in the worst case I have my Restore Discs, and can backup from there.

Problem with shortcut keys

Hi, sorry if this was mentioned again, the search button is off temporarily so i can't search for it.

I've got this weird problem with the shortcut keys on my VGN-AR61M.
When I start the computer everything works fine, S1/2 good, sound volume control ok, but they randomly stop working, without me shutting down any tasks or configuring anything.
It's a bit annoying to ie. not be able to adjust the volume and having to go all the way to control panel or so.
Is there something i could check or fix to make this go away?

Personally i have come to the conclusion that the touchpad has thermal scanners to identify your finger movement.
sometimes when i touched it with sweaty hands,it misunderstood my movements and sometimes stopped overall.so i suggest giving it a good wipe with a dry cloth.

but maybe thats not the case at all.i dont know,im just proposing a solution.

if you reset the device,what responce do you get?
does it turn on at all?
maybe it ran out of battery and responded quite violently during turning off.

sometimes i get messages like that about transfering mp3s.
i just convert the files [with mediamonkey] and then re-insert them in the library and its all ok.

but i guess you must have a different problem?!
dont know if that helps,just give it a try.

if your car system has a cassette player you can use one of sony's cable cassettes that are specially made to connect to devices by a cable of the line out type that the vaio cradle has.

or you could use a radio connection device.you plug it on the vaio and select a certain fm frequency and then you can use that frequency by tuning your car radio to listen to whatever vaio is playing...

what version of windows have you got?

win xp should recognize it as an external device without installing anything,but win 98 dont do that!

make sure that all the software are installed if you got win98 cause otherwise you might not be able to make your pc recognize the drive...

to add images to music files or albums,go to sonicstage,select the album you want to add the picture on and right click on the sonicstage logo appearing on the top left of the screen.
there is an option that says add image,do that and find the image on your hard drive,so it adds the picture on the album[or song]

to transfer pictures on to vaio,you copy-paste the files in the folder vaio_photo,user_001.

well it seems to have worked out for you but what about all the people that complain about their vp not being supported or recognized from ss 3.0[mainly]?

sony has made many mistakes on this bit of the vp...[reffering to software]

yeah but that doesnt mean that the vp is faulty or something.

sony said from the beggining that it would not be compatible with some cameras[actually there was a list of supported models in the sone website for vp and guess what;they were all cybershots!]

i dont think sony will release ANY firmware update soon unless it occurs that the new vaio model needs firmware update so they make one compatible for both.
but again this will be in years time if they keep on moving this fast!

i am not very fond of wierd technology or design headphones,i just use common phillips ones and am ok with it although my left ear has an adjustment problem and the headphone is never set right and always falls off after a few minutes

at last just give up with the case!
sony is stupid enough to have all these different sections and services so that you can t do anything right;dont justify them by spending so much time,money and effort on them!

nothing like that has happened to me bentate but i am sure that it must a fault in something having to do with the battery...
i know sony was untrue about battery life but getting electric shocks from it would be far out for sony to have missed it!
it is an international company after all!

but you can point a finger at them with this evidence[and many others actually!]

by the time i did that the 3.0 wasnt out yet,so there was no conflict.
not quite sure how you can do that...i suppose by uninstalling 3.0 nothing will change much!
im telling you sstage is a mess you cant get anything right with it!

f**k and f**k sony for giving us that as the only option we have!
thats why people requested real player and musicmatch support!

if we are lucky enough we will live to see those prgs supporting vp.

as for your problem,i dont think there is much i can offer.
maybe if i try going to my friends house again[hes got 3.0 now],but it will be long before i can do that.will try though,just to see the prg reaction!will let you know.
