I agree with you Madarbwot, but it was a bad decision from Sony. Not everyone have Cybershots, the majority has other digital cameras... i don't understand this decision

I think Sony might like to sell some more Cybershots supposedly I believe! That's why they made their products compatible with their other products! (Nearly, not really )

I believe that the demo mode is described in the manual.
For rating, I use winamp. A right click on the song and then rate it.

At least the gap when playing songs has stopped! Now I have to find some decent headphones. Any suggestions? One option is the Sennheiser PX200.

I believe the reason that you just see a white screen is that your VP's LCD is not working, and the white lights are only the backlights.
Maybe the freezing temperature caused it, because I heard somewhere that LCD is sensitive to heat and cold. After 10 times freezing, no wonder it's not working!
You definately have to send it to a Sony repair centre, if you want your VP back!

I believe this is the least worry of a VP owner "!
But

the date of the photo files transferred is the date of when they where transferred instead the date of when they were taken.

The date of transfer , is the date of transfer, not the date of photo taken ! If it was the date of photo taken, it wouldn't be the date of transfer any more!

Gapless playback is possible and automatic, but only for ATRAC files, not for MP3.

You are right, maybe that's why they didn't upgrade the firmware for a long time, even thogh there are lots of bugs in the VP! Maybe they planning a new firmware which is compatible to both version, DAP and AVP !

Yep it's possible that the problem with some mass storage cameras be solved in future firmware updates.
But whne is the next one? who knows! They still advertise their October 2004 firmware upgrade of VP in the FIRST PAGE !

Yep it would be of a use in a forum! users sometimes like to delete their posts! It's the first forum I visit without this ability! Oops, I forgot, it's a Sony thing

First read the VP manual carefully, about how to connect a camera to VP.
Second, VP is compatible with MOST of the mass storage cameras, not ALL of them! Sorry, you might be just unlucky!

That's a bit impractical to remove the battery everytime and replace it again!
A better idea is that if we could disable the time and date feature from the options. But we need a firmware upgrade for that.

Nope, because I have songs on my VP from less than 1 minute to more than 2 hours, and my VP plays all of them with no problem.

I had the same problem.
What I've done, was a silly thing, but at least it worked. I changed the ID3Tag of each track and changed the name of the album to the name of the track. In this way, SS thinks that they are different albums, but just 1 song in each. Then it's easy to asign a cover for each one.
If someone knows a better way, please let us know.

Well, I personally hate iPod as it's overrated and became a fashion item rather than a useful DAP. My major problem is with it's battery life.
Then, it's body, which after 2 weeks will be full of scratches.
It's clickwheel is great! Bur g-sense is better than clickwheel
iPod's photo LCD is worse than VP, which is good for VP users! But the it's photo software is much better than VP at the moment.
iPod photo has a AV/OUT which is making the owner able to watch their pictures on a TV, and VP doesn't have one.
All in all, I prefer VP, and with a bit more care from Sony, it'd be the best in everything very soon!

Conor, that bright white screen is possibly a bug in the firmware, and Sony has to do something for it in future firmware upgrades (Maybe in 10 years or something ! ) My VP has done that 2-3 times .
MadarbWot, I have the same problem! The waiting time increases as VP's HDD free space decreases! There has to be a connection between them!

If there's only one firmware upgrade till ow, then downgrading is impossible, unless you ask Sony do that for you and send your VP for them! (I don't think a SANE person would do that!)
I believe formatting VP won't delete the firmware files or downgrade them, as upgrading prosess is with rewriting the old firmware and I don't think VP keep a backup of the old firmware!
That's why they ask you to connect the power to VP and keep it on during the firmware upgrade process, cause if for some reason the process fails, then it's like installing half a windows, which isn't useful at all! And you can run your PC with a bootable Floppy Disk or CD, but for VP, well, I suppose there's no CD-Rom drive yet

Don't worry, it's weird, but recoverable easily!
If you still have the new firmware, )or if you don't download it again) you can find the skin folder in the firmware package.
Just copy all the files inside it and paste it to the same folder on your VP! that's it.

MadarbWot, he actually wants to DOWNGRADE his firmware instead of UPGRADE!
I don't know if it's possible or not, but if you have a previous firmware, do the same thing for upgrading it, it might downgrade in the same way.

iPod photo might have more advantages than VP in theory, but VP's potential is much higher!
And in addition, iPod photo's LCD is 65K colour !
VP's LCD is 256K colour!
