Sony KDL- EX700 - Unable to update firmware

TV is connected to the Internet, System Update is set to ON and internet connectivity is fine - yet the firmware won't be updated. I downloaded the firmware to the USB and followed all possible instructions - yet the TV won't update the firmware. The USB is recognized by the TV and shows all the folders.

TV firmware is PKG4.110GAL-0108 and trying to upgrade to 4.114.

KDL-26EX553 Internet screen offset

Hi, I have just purchased Bravia Smart TV's KDL-26EX553 and KDL-22EX553. When I go to the Internet screen it is off to the right, i.e. only half of the screen is visible. If I scroll to the right, the screen jumps to the left, and only half the screen is visible again. In short, the Internet screen is never in the middle. This happens on both TV's I have tried to adjust screen position but it is not possible in Internet mode. Anyone have an answer?

KDL-46W905A and Freesat HD EPG Support

Could anyone who has this TV help with the question of Freesat HD EPG support?

Sony Specs only mention a DVB-S2 Tuner, but no specific mention of Freesat HD EPG support. Their website lists several TVs that support Freesat, but not this one. The Technical Information Centre says that it does, but cannot point me to a statement showing this.

John Lewis and several other major sellers all specifically say that there is no Freesat HD on the W9 range.

I understand the channels could be tuned, but with no EPG and offical Freesat HD support, finding channels with over 100 could be difficult.

Could anyone who has connected and tested Freesat HD EPG support, please confirm? £1700 is a lot to spend, if there is no Freesat HD EPG support.

sony KDL-46w905 cannot play mkv files

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my new 46w905, when I try to play .mkv files from my usb stick the tv "crashes", and I need to manually reset it. When the usb has both .avi and .mkv files it cannot play either and the TV crashes! I have to say that I tried both exFAT and NTFS format systems and neither worked. The .mkv size file does not seem to play any matter as I tries both a 1,6GB and a 19GB size files and neither played! I need to point out that my usb stick is a 32GB capacity! When I connect it to my sony NF720 home theater system it plays but do not support the subtitles!

I am trying to connect my kdl-32ex723 Bravia TV to my home network using a netgear xavb5004 powerline hub. The hub is recognised on the network but my TV cannot access the network and hence the internet. Any ideas on how I can solve this?

Hi,

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere...I've just connected my 42EX443 to my network- TV shows as 'connected' I was expecting to be able to see other devices on the network, specifically my NAS. I've done this on numerous Bravia's but can't find any Network related menus either on the TV or in any manuals apart from basic plug-in etc.

What and how does connecting a network to this TV give?

Connecting DAV S550 to Bravia W9

I have recently purchased a new Bravia W9 tv. I have managed to connect it to my Sky+ box via HDMI cable.

However I am having problems connecting my old DAV S550 home cinema system which does not have HDMI or Scart connectors. I have the audio/video cord (red/white/yellow connectors) but I cant get any sound when connected. Also I'm not sure if I am connecting them to the right points on either unit.

Can anyone advise on the correct connection, I assume I'm connecting to the cinema and tv (not the sky box)

Also would an optical connection be a better option

kdl-40nx700 do not connect to buffalo NAS

Dear everybody,

I try to see photos via my Bravia kdl-40nx700. Photos are saved in Buffalo Terastation (server). I'm able to connect Bravia in to WLAN, but TV says, cannot find server.

It did work earlier, but after changed LAN ADSL modem, Sony do not anymore connect to Buffalo.

ADSl Modem is zyxel P-661HNU.

Actually earlier it did not work perfectly either...after some point of time Sony did no show newest photos, but only older photos... and now I cannot see either older photos either.

I asked above from Buffalo, and Buffalo answer was that it is due to Sony failure.

Anybody met similar issue?

Any help appreciated.

This problem is much bigger than intially anticipated, it appears that it is present in a large amount of Sony TV's released in 2007.

To help Sony customers and keep them up to date on the situation I have decided to do a separate thread where people can post updates. I will update it as further news comes in.

Q+A's - Grey lines on Sony TV's

What is the problem?
Grey Dark Lines that appear on these models after a period of 2-3 years, these lines get worse over time.

Which Models are affected?

V, W & X series, e.g. KDL40X****, KDL46X****, KDL40W4***, KDL46W4**

How many people are affected by this:?

Up to now I have found over 90 people who are all reporting this problem.

What is Sony's current stance on this manufacturing fault?

Intially Sony will request that you pay £80 for the TV to be looked at, if it turns out that the TV is a manufacturing fault then they may decide to fix or replace it at that point.

Currently they are offering no reassurance that:

A: You will not be left footing the bill

B: You will not loose your £80

C: This is indeed a manufacturing fault

D: You will not be left without any TV for more than 4 weeks

Is it just Sony TV's that are affected by this fault?

No Toshiba TV's are also affected however Toshiba offer either an immediate replacement or an uplift for credit

Gosh, you are persistent what do you plan to do?

At the moment I am hoping that Sony take a similar stance to Toshiba and try to recitify this problem so customers feel a little less cheated. I feel the way that Sony have treated the customers is completley unfair and unlawful.

I am currently trying to get together a group of people who suffer this same issue to show Sony how widespread this problem is.

Yes, I am just like everyone else who feels somewhat short changed by Sony. I bought the TV in 2007 for over £1000 and less that 2 years later it goes kaput. I have now been fighting this since 12 months ago and as yet still have not had a positive response. As I was one of the early adopters of this model it appears more and more people are realising this problem, it seems that the problem is a lot more widespread then intially thought.

Please feel free to post any updates, thoughts, feelings on this thread. Sony moderators, if you do have any additional information other that what we have told already then please post.

To be fair to Sony any new information will be updated and I will regularly update this post with anything new.

Please try to resolve this for me and the many other people with this problem.

Update - April 2011:

Thanks to Lee, I have now spoken to Sony and they have offered a resolution to my problem and I happy that it is now nearly at an end.

The new procedure is 10 times better than when I first put the complaint in last June (which is where most of my problems arose). Things have changed considerably since then and Sony was a lot more helpful this time round.

If you are having these problems pick up the phone and give them a chance to try and resolve it, yes you may have to pay for the TV to be looked at (approx £65) but this is to eliminate any problems that may not be down to a manufacturing fault.

Up until this I was under the impression that Sony were a faceless corporate who did not care about their customers. I now feel I was under the wrong impression and a number of people who work for Sony do really care about customer concerns.

W653 crashed during initial setup

As the title says, my Bravia crashed on initial setup at the point where it asks you if the TV is to work in a shop or at home.

It just froze then rebooted itself and now it just first shows a screen of static, then 01 in the corner and then some moving bars which stop and then it restarts and does the same all over again.

After a few attempts it then turns itself off and flashes red at the bottom under the Sony Badge.

Remote control seems to do nothing, so how do I get it working or reset it?

I was woken up last night at 2am when my new W9 automatically turned itself on. I went downstairs turned it off, back to bed and 10 minutes later on again. Earlier in the day I downloaded the TV side view app for iPad and enabled the option to allow the app to turn on the TV. Suspecting this may have been the issue somehow, I disabled the option on the TV and verified. Back to bed and 5 minutes later the TV was back on again!

I have not played with the timer functions yet so I don't think this is the issue.

Any ideas appreciated

2010 Bravia models - Internet Channel Switching

Are there any plans to update the software on Bravia 2010 series sets to prevent them getting confused and switching the receiver off when landing on IPTV delivered channels in the EPG, the set cannot decode and show these services.

Recently 4music has adopted this switching method to provide access to other Box TV channels via IPTV. It's now impossible to watch this channel without the recever switching off.

Wrong title on HDD timer recordings

I'm using the HDD timer record from Freeview via the EPG on my KDL-24EX320. Although the correct program is recorded, the list of titles usually shows the previous programme name - somewhat confusing!

My theory is that setting the timer via EPG picks up the channel and time from the EPG, but sets a slightly earlier start time (to allow the HDD to be powered up from standby), then the recording picks up the title from the programme currently being broadcast - the previous programme.

Can anyone confirm this?

Software version PKG3.212EUA-10104 (current, I think).

It seems that SONY owners have yet more disappointments in store as Tesco offer free films via blinkbox, SONY TV's generally are not in their list of compatible devices, you need Samsung LG, Toshiba and the like.

I suspect that even if SONY do issue a firmware update to allow complicity; KDL-40NX803 owners, don't hold your breath!

40EX402 problem

Hi I have 40EX402 and i have the following problem.

When I try to watch TV with an external BOX the tv starts to switching between analog channels witch isnt in use and the AV1 where I have my box connected, I have tried to put the box in AV2 but its the same result. The box is ok, I´ve tested it on another TV and it works fine. I´ve tested several different cables and the problem remains.

Anyone that have an idea what the problem might be?

i have exactly the same problem as the other people who have written about this tv model on the forum and there seems to be manty many more out thereon forums reporting the same problem that sony will not acknowledge.

there are dark lines running down my screen and a dark shadow line about an inch think on the right hand side of my screen, this was more noticable when watching football. my tv is not under warrranty anymore but is only 2 and a 1/2 years old. it seems that sony have created their screens to only last this long as lots of people have the same complaint.

i have just rang sony and i have been told that "there is no known problems with this model" that is rubbish as clearly there are a few of us just on this forum with the same pronblem. So we are paying about £1000 for a tv that will only last 2.5 years. i am disgusted with the lack of help and support from the sony call centre staff who basically said i need to get it fixed myself and i need to book it in with a service engineer. I suspect this is a problem with the panel or with the screen where a replace ment would cost you more than getting a new set. it would cost me £45 just for someone to come out and tell me that without even having it repaired. as a dedicated sony buyer over the years i cannot believe that my most expensive buy has only lasted 2.5 years.

Selecting Slideshow content while listening to Digital Radio on 40Ex503

I have recently bought the 40Ex503 and have been absolutely blown away by it, its fantastic.

I am now trying to setup the ability to watch the photos on my USB stick as a slideshow whilst listening to Internet Radio, i.e. Heart FM, streaming through the digital channel.

It quite happily slideshows the Bravia photos but not mine.

How do I set this up please?

Got the Lovefilm free trial for a month last week and have been trying to get this to work on my kdl40ex503 ever since - go into the app and there is never any items. tried unlinking and relinking many, many times.

Got the trial to see if it was worth dropping my netflix account in favour of lovefilm - after finding out that netflix isn't coming to my tv.

any ideas?

Resolving Picture Quality - KDL 23B4050

I have a Bravia KDL 23B4050 analogue/digital tv which has worked well for 4-5 years linked to Tiscali's online TV service. That ended in March and I had to have an roof top aerial fitted and receive Freeview via it. Again no problems until 10 April 2013 when Freeview retuned for G4 phone signals.

Now plagued with periodic massive pixelation and audio breakdown - have retuned manually and automaticall but even so having done so I then choose say BBC1 - the channel momentarilly comes on screen but is quickly followed by a single line "not tuned" message then flickers and goes to BBC1.

Do I have two issues or what? Spoke with Digital UK and they suggested 'factory reset' to clear memory and/or remove aerial from socket to discharge static. The latter actually did some good for several hours viewing but as to factory reset the remote conrol up arrow/switch off method does not work on this model.

What is really galling is that others around us have no signal issues and good reception.

Can anyone offer thoughts or tell me how to achieve a factory reset?

I have quite an old Sony Bravia (KDL-32T2800) that I cannot for the life of me connect to an Xbox 360 :// The Xbox is also quite old (doesn't have HDMI). The tv reads 'OUT OF RANGE' on the channel that the Xbox should be shown on. There is sometimes sound but never a picture of any kind. I have looked for the manual on this site and apparently they do not have any to download in English so Im all out if ideas :(( Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers guys :)

I'm assuming it's not as it is model KDL-S26A12U and was not bought recently. But it is supposed to be HD Ready, and having just acquired a YouView box which does precious little at the moment, I am more than a little curious to know for definite. And extremely frustrated!
