Hi everyone

Im having a problem with my computer crashing when its connected to my external screen.

I have a Sony Vaio E-series VPCEB2S1E-BQ with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. The driver, which my system says is up to date is version 8.723.8.2000.

When i play games, mostly League of Legends, I experience that my computer crashes. It freezes and the sound gets all moshy and I cant do anything else but reboot my computer.

I only experience this when im using my external screen, so im quite sure that it has something to do with my graphics card/driver not being able to boost the resolution into 1920.x1080 (Laptop screen is 1366x768)

What do you think it can be guys and what can I do?

hi there i'm looking for help i have a a ati mobility radeon 5780 HD and the driver is from 2010 from the website,

i'm trying to play guild wars 2 beta and there is blue graphic glitches in game and the makers says something to do with forcing anti anilising is probley the problem and drivers need to be updated, players with the up to date driver dont seem to have this problem.

also my partner is able to play this game when his card is alot older then mine and isnt on the supported list but works, can you update the driver to a more modern one as surely more and more games will have issues with a two year old driver

Can anyone help?

My daughter has a 17" VAIO which wont power on. When connected to the power supply there is a continuous orange flashing light cycle which repeats in two flashes * pause * two flashes * pause. I've removed hard drive and re-seated the ram. Nothing powers up when I press the power button. The model is PCG 8Z3M and I think this model is similar or is based on the VGN-AR51E. Any help or advice to troubleshoot this machine before I screw four legs on it and use it as a coffee table would be greatly appreciated.

Sony VAIO VGN-FW21L Start up problem

I am having continual problems when starting up my laptop.

It started off periodically refusing to start up, only solution was to disconnect poer lead, remove battery then try again.

I was then asked to reboot and repair etc etc.

PCG-K215Z Freezes randomly - help!

I have two PCG-K215Z one on original software, one had a clean reinstall, both run XP SP3. Both randomly freeze without warning requiring a reboot - especially when they have been left with no input for a few minutes. No issues are shown in the error logs and nothing seems amiss in the services or system hardware - no conflicts are shown. Both are running 1GB of Ram - I have tried everything including chkdsk, and driver update scans but to no avail and cannot fathom it - has anyone any ideas or suggestions? Has anyone had a similar experience that they've cracked? Please help!

This is my first post on this forum so I hope I will describe my problem well.

I bought a Sony Vaio E Series from Sony's Online store here in UK in August 2010.

The model number is: VPCEB2X5E

It's specifications are:

Intel® CoreTM i5-520M, 2.40GHz
Windows® 7 Home Premium 64 bit
500 GB Serial ATA (5400 rpm)
3 GB 1066MHz DDR3-SDRAM
ATI MobilityRadeon HD5650 1GB

Recently I have faced the following problem:

During gameplay my notebook has frozen for about 1-2 minutes and then turned off by itself and rebooted. After that incident until lately the notebook took ages (approx. 20 minutes) to boot and 10 minutes to shut down. After it was successfully booted Windows was running exceptionally. Like there was no problem.

This problem was bothering me very much and I decided to reformat the system to investigate if was Windows system failure or hardware failure.

I have to note that my profession is a Computer Scientist and I understand at least the basics of computer hardware and software failures. My mind was saying that this is definitely hardware problem but I wanted to eliminate the possibility of a software problem first.

So after I reformatted the system was working pretty well, for only 4 days. Then the same freeze happened and this time it won't even boot neither in Windows, in Safe Mode or in recovery partition. Every time it went showing Windows logo and then showing the windows background it got stuck.

At this point I realize is either a hard drive or RAM failure.

I ran couple of hard drive diagnostics and most of them reported no errors. Even the SMART reading passed all the checks.

Can anyone help me understand what the problem with this notebook is so I can fix it?

I don't know if my notebook has 1 year of warranty or 2, if can anyone knows how many years warranty vaio notebook have by default please let me know.

Disk Drive won't open

Hi,

I have a Vaio and I installed a game on the laptop. Once the game was installed I was unable to open this or the disk drive.

I managed to open the drive by using a pin into the small hole on the disk tray. When I try to open the tray again it won't open and if I right click on the drive within My Computer and click 'eject' I get an error saying 'An error occured while ejecting BD-Rom drive'.

Any ideas as to why it won't open now?

Vaio Laptop VGN-NR32S STARTUP PROBLEMS - CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP

When I press start button the laptop tries to start, the VAIO screen comes on but I then get a black screen saying Error loading operating system.

I have tried all the Troubleshooting tips from Sony - tapping F8 gets same error message. When I tap F10 i get:

My laptop seems to have died as it won't load Windows after switching on. I have tried pressing F8 but that page won't load. When I press F10 I get - Windows is loading files then a black screen whic says:-

I HAVE TRIED USING RECOVERY BACKUP DISCS AND IT SAYS - WINDOWS IS LOADING FILES WITH THE MOVNG GREY BAND UNDERNEATH BUT THEN IT JUST HANGS WITH A BLUE/GREY SCREEN AND NOTHING HAPPENS.

I've a Vaio VGN-FZ38M, which I bought 4 years and three weeks ago. It's acquired a fault which I believe is the GPU failing, causing lines and random characters from startup (and blue screen). This appears to be a known issue with Nvidia GPUs and Sony have undertaken to fix the problem for notebooks that are within 4 years of the purchase date. Will Sony fix my laptop, given that it is less than a month out of 4 years, or am I pushing my luck there? I can't email Sony directly as I can't find the corrext address and am unable to phone. Perhaps someone can help me out with a customer support email address - looking for it online has sent me round in so many circles...

I'm new to this I've never used a discussion board before.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW20EF

I'm having issues with my webcam it works on MSN and Skype most of the time but if I wanted to use the camera for just taking pics without being in MSN etc I just can't seem to turn it on.

When I've search on sonys site it gives me a choice of 3 different ones with an extra letter after the code above, I've no idea which on I have as there is no other letter after the code above.

There's been mention of Vaio Camera capture utility but when I search this nothing comes up.

I've checked my drivers and they say they're upto date.

I'm not great with computers at the best of times but I'm dumbfounded by this.

Can anyone assist me please??

VPC-F13Z1E very strange power problem

Hello.

My SONY Vaio VPC-F13Z1E has suddenly developed a strange and annoying problem.

There is nothing wrong with my battery as I have tried a freinds identical one and mine works in his but his doesn't work in mine.

My laptop won't turn on without the AC power lead connected and on even though the battery is 100% charged.

The strange thing is when I plug into AC power the laptop turns on and runs but the power status light is not on and the battery icon says it's running on battery power and stays at 99% but is clearly running on AC power, if I pull the AC power cable out the laptop dies straight away.

Anyone any ideas what the problem is?

I have tried a replacement battery and AC adaptor but still same problem.

I can't upgrade to latest BIOS as it won't let me as says I must be on mains power not battery and won't let me do it even though I am on mains power!!!

It seems like the laptop is confused and thinks on battery power when on AC power but won't run battery alone.

Clean Install on VGN-FS195VP

I have a Vaio VGN-FS195VP on which I have tried installing my own copy of Windows XP Pro after deleting what came with the notebook. In doing so, I faced few issues which I believe some of you may be able to help deal with.

I inserted windows XP CD and booted from the CD drive. During installation, I was prompted to select on which partition I would like installation, I chose C. I could not delete the partition of hard drive on which sony stores the directories for recovery. I would like to have that space back as I can do with more space on C drive. Can anyone help me with this?

Secondly,

Following other comments here on the forum I proceeded. After completing the installation, I inserted CD on which I earlier downloaded all the drivers for my model from sony's website. I created C:\drivers and copied those files in them. I read here in the forum they have to be installed in specific order which I tried. I clicked on zip files and extracted them in c:\dirvers folder. Do I have to do anything further with them? I have found setup.exe files in most of those extracted directories. Do I need to click and install each of them? Apologies, sounds a bit daft but I am so confused...

I have extracted these in the following order:

Original chipset driver, original sony notebook controler driver, original utilities package, full drivers pacakage, orginal video driver (it has two), original audio driver, original modem driver, original network driver, original wireless LAN driver, original USB mouse driver, original memory stick driver.

I am still left with original touchpad driver and original monitor driver, I have not extracted them yet as there is no mention on sony website in which order they would go.

I do not want to install any of Sony's extra stuff. I assume in that case I just need to update windows with SP3 directly or do I have to install first SP1, SP2 and then SP3? After this I will have to download microsoft KB835221 in order for audio to work.

Please help!

On second thought's I am thinking to re-start the entire installation in the following order:

1) Install Windows XP

2) Install service pack 3

3) Install KB KB835221

4) Install original full drivers package

5) Install Sony Utilities, Sony Shared Library, Vaio Event Service

6) Install the remaining utilities

I still need help on how to reclaim the hard disk space after deleting the partition on which sony original recovery system is stored. Also, do I have to click on setup.exe files on each driver application after extracting in C:\drivers.

Could you tech savoy guys help me.

Vaio update not updating

I am using Vaio Update version 5.4.1.04200. Upon checking for updates it come up with the following message...

A new version of VAIO Update is available. VAIO Update cannot be used unless it is updated. Update now?

I click yes, then the icon in the system tray shows it is downloading the update but then after around 1 minute it stops and nothing happens. So, until this is fixed i cannot use VAIO Update.

Any solutions or a direct download link to download the latest version?

If it makes difference my model number is VGN-AW41MF

Rebuilt PCV-RX201 no sound drivers

Hi, i've inherited an old RX-201 and didn't have the install or recovery disks.

Rather than scrap it, i reformatted and reinstalled XP but can't find the sound drivers anywhere.

The sony site allows me to download the preinstalled drivers but the ADI1881A instal.exe will not run?

I'm sure i'm not the only person who's had this, any tips gratefully received.

Colour calibration keeps resetting/changing

Hello,

I have a customised Sony Vaio C14 with an AMD Radeon HD 6630m GPU.

I have a self-calibrated colour profile which I have "set as default" through Windows Colour Management. My problem is that my colour profile keeps resetting to a washed out red-ish tone everytime the computer is booted, put to sleep or even after playing a game.

I have also noticed that the colour slowly changes to the same washed out red-ish tone when there are many dark colours on the screen (example: If I set my wallpaper to a solid black). However, if I open up an Explorer window (which is White), the colour slowly adjusts back to what it was. This only seems to happen when the computer is not plugged in.

So far I have tried everything from:

- Reinstalling the AMD driver (Sony provided)

- Catalyst Control Centre settings

- Intel Graphics properties

- Vaio Control Centre settings

But the problem still persists.

I have a feeling it is a driver issue because the problem dissappeared when I uninstalled the AMD Sony provided driver. However, my AMD GPU was disabled because of this... which is not ideal.

Please help!

well first off i am peeved to say the least with the battery which has refused to charge above 80% since buying it 18 months ago, as i didn't use it very often at the time it wasn't a major concern on it's own, however since then i am now having problems with the bluetooth which doesn't register as being compatible with Windows 7, and finally the final straw, my Blu ray player will not play or even register my blu rays, dvd and data content it will, but the drive makes a racket for a while and then.....NOTHING. Over £700 for this laptop and if this wasn't bought for me by my deceased grandmother i would throw it away

Sony Vaio VPC-SB4C won't boot / start up

I've had my Vaio VPC-SB4C for about 5-6 weeks now, no problems other than it being a bit noisy from time to time when it gets warm.

Used it this morning and this afternoon it won't boot up.

AC adapter has a green light on, I've tried the troubleshooting tips (removing battery, pressing power button for 5 secs, replacing battery etc) but all to no avail. No LED's, nothing.

Have called Customer Support and am going to get a call back tomorrow after spending 30 mins on the phone to a premium rate number, nice!

As ever, I really need to access my laptop for my work, ideally today, I can see this is not going to happen!

Has anyone experienced anything like this or can offer any assistance?

Hi, could anyone please help me with a problem i have with my sony vaio laptop, i always just leave the laptop open on my table,but closed the lid the other day and when i opened the lid and booted up the screen colours were all wrong and looked wired? i tapped the back of the screen on the case and it went back to normal, this only happens when i close the lid,but once i tap the back of the screen on a reboot its fine, any ideas please?
